It's been a while. I am just getting back into the swing of things and gearing up for a busy fall. I got back this weekend from a wonderful trip to Italy (too short!) and am still feeling a bit out of sorts.
I thought a little baking might help me to get ready to embrace fall. This apple cardamom cake was adapted from this one (although not as pretty).

This is lovely! Cardamom is one of my favorite spices and my mom makes the most wonderful chai using ginger and cardamom. The cake looks beautiful!

Welcome back! Cake looks great, I think i even prefer it to the original one. Baking, especially with spices like cardamom and cinnamon is definitely the way to get back into the swing of things, I hope you enjoyed it.

Oh thank god. Simply Breakfast is one of the few blogs that I eagerly check for new entries. I find your photos and short quips both inspiring and motivating... at least they motivate me to eat more delicious things for breakfast, which of course makes for a better and more creative day on the whole. Welcome back. Look forward to more blog posts!
It's a magical moment when I'm enchanted into making a recipe by a single photograph. Beautiful shot and cake! I'll be trying this one over the weekend after apple picking tomorrow. xxx, j
oh my does that look tasty.
mmm yummy! gigi. food and beauty blogger.
love cardamom so much, in both savoury and sweet. and urgh really freakin love all your photos. if I took a photo of my breakfast every morning it will look pretty much the same.
I have alwys been wanting to bake with cardamom but just not bothered to buy the spice since I dont really use them. After seeing your picture of the cake, I may have to make a trip to the supermarket soon..
I love your pictures btw, keep it up!
I will have to make this soon! Also, I love how you often can see the steam from your mug of coffee. It's wonderful and cozy, and gives so much life to the picture.
That looks like a dream breakfast to me. I love a little pie with coffee!

I'm curious if you had a chance to experience/photograph the typical Italian prima colazione - un cornetto or 'breakfast' cookies + un cafè - while you were over here (though maybe you had access to more variety where you were staying!)?
The apple cardamom cake sounds wonderful - a lovely way to welcome yourself home. Thanks for sharing...
I'm confused...did you change the recipe at all from the one you referenced?? if so, what changes did you make?? i think yours looks better!!
Mmm, need to try that cake. Sounds amazing.
really nice blog
